HVAC services for homeowners

Every service starts with a safety-first diagnosis. Here's how we help you restore comfort — clearly, and without guesswork.

Furnace repair

Furnace Repair

We diagnose no-heat calls, ignition faults, airflow problems, and winter safety issues — starting with the checks that keep your family safe.

AC repair

AC Repair

Weak cooling, frozen coils, airflow restrictions, and moisture problems solved by measuring real performance, not assumptions.

Heat pump service

Heat Pump Service

We inspect heating and cooling performance, controls, and defrost-related issues so your system works in every season.

Ductless mini-splits

Ductless Mini-Splits

Troubleshoot room-by-room comfort issues, controls, and refrigerant performance on ductless systems.

Maintenance and tune-ups

Maintenance & Tune-Ups

Catch worn components early and reduce the chance of a seasonal breakdown when you need the system most.

Thermostat service

Thermostat Service

We test the full control path so you know whether the issue is the thermostat or the equipment behind it.

Every service, in depth

What each service actually covers

For every system, we start with the safety-critical checks, measure real performance, and explain the most likely root cause before any repair begins.

Furnace Repair

When a furnace fails in an Inland Northwest winter, it stops being an inconvenience and becomes a safety issue fast. We trace no-heat calls, ignition faults, and safety shutdowns back to the real source — and inspect safety-critical combustion components on every visit.

What we check

  • Heating failure diagnosis — no-heat, ignition faults, and lockouts
  • Heat exchanger inspection and combustion safety
  • Gas valve, ignitor, and flame sensor service
  • Blower motor, capacitor, and airflow troubleshooting

Common calls we see

No heat Won't turn on Burning or gas smell Yellow burner flame Hot & cold rooms High energy bills

AC Repair

Weak cooling, frozen coils, airflow restrictions, and moisture problems get solved by measuring actual performance — not by guessing. We identify the root cause before recommending any repair so the same issue doesn't come back.

What we check

  • Cooling failure, refrigerant, and electrical fault diagnosis
  • Airflow and coil performance testing
  • Compressor, capacitor, and condenser checks
  • Full condensate drain path and thermostat review

Common calls we see

Weak or warm air Low or no airflow Short cycling Loud noises Water or ice at the unit Bad smells

Heat Pump Service

A heat pump heats and cools with the same equipment, so a winter complaint and a summer complaint can trace back to the same control, airflow, or outdoor-unit issue. We confirm the operating mode first, then test the system the way it's actually being used.

What we check

  • Heating and cooling performance in the active mode
  • Controls and thermostat setup
  • Defrost-related issues at the outdoor unit
  • Airflow and refrigerant performance

Common calls we see

Weak heating or cooling Frost & ice / defrost Backup heat runs too often Thermostat / setup issues

Ductless Mini-Splits

Mini-splits are built for room-by-room comfort, so the problem usually shows up as one zone that feels off while the rest of the home seems fine. We follow the room, the indoor head, and the outdoor unit together so the fix matches the actual complaint.

What we check

  • Room-by-room comfort and zone balancing
  • Indoor head airflow and filter condition
  • Remote and wall-control signal and settings
  • Drainage and refrigerant performance

Common calls we see

One room too warm/cool Water or drainage Remote / control issues Units out of sync

Maintenance & Tune-Ups

A tune-up is a checkup, not a sales pitch. We look for friction, dirt, loosened connections, and operating changes that are easy to miss until they become a breakdown — so you have a clearer read on the system before the season changes.

What we check

  • Filter and airflow condition
  • Coil and blower inspection
  • Safety and control checks
  • Seasonal performance verification

Why it matters

Fewer surprise breakdowns Catch wear early Heating-season readiness Cooling-season readiness

Thermostat Service

A thermostat issue can look like an equipment failure from the outside. Blank displays, short cycling, or a system that won't settle can point to the thermostat, the wiring, the setup, or the equipment. We test the whole control path before making a recommendation.

What we check

  • Blank screen and no-response diagnosis
  • Compatibility and wiring
  • Setup and calibration
  • Scheduling, comfort control, and smart-thermostat fit

Common calls we see

Blank screen / no response Never reaches target temp Short cycling Smart-thermostat compatibility
Decision guide

Repair or replace?

The right decision starts with the real cause. We diagnose first, then show you the reasoning — safety, repeat failures, and total ownership cost matter more than guesswork or age alone.

Signals that point toward repair

  • The issue is isolatedOne failed component doesn't automatically mean the whole system is declining.
  • The system is still operating safelyIf the safety checks pass, repair usually stays on the table.
  • Major failures are not repeatingA short repair history points toward fixing the current issue instead of replacing early.

Signals that point toward replacement

  • Safety-related failures are presentCracked components or combustion concerns change the conversation fast.
  • Core parts are failing repeatedlyWhen the same major systems keep failing, repair costs and downtime stack up.
  • Ownership cost keeps climbingRepeated repairs, performance loss, and higher utility bills can make replacement the cleaner path.
Symptom guide

Not sure what's wrong? Start with the symptom.

Match what your system is doing to the problems we see most often. Anything that feels urgent or safety-related — gas odor, a yellow burner flame, fast-dropping comfort — is a reason to call right away.

Heating symptoms

Most heating calls trace back to ignition, airflow, controls, or a safety-critical combustion issue.

No heat Furnace won't turn on Burning or gas smell Yellow burner flame Hot & cold rooms Sudden high energy bills

Cooling symptoms

Cooling complaints usually point to refrigerant, airflow, a coil restriction, or the condensate drain path.

Weak or warm air Low or no airflow Short cycling Loud noises Water or ice around unit Bad smells from vents
Upfront pricing

$220 diagnostic. We test, we don't guess.

A full safety-first diagnosis before any work begins. The fee covers the technician's time, travel, and a complete system evaluation — with no surprise charges and no pressure to approve work on the spot.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a service call cost?
Every visit starts with a $220 diagnostic that covers the technician's time, travel, and a complete safety-first system evaluation. You get a clear explanation of what we found before any repair work begins. If a repair is needed, it's quoted separately after the diagnosis — no hidden fees and no pressure to approve work on the spot.
What areas do you serve?
We serve homeowners on both sides of the state line — Spokane County in Washington and Kootenai, Bonner, and Shoshone Counties in North Idaho. See our Service Areas page for the full city list.
Do you offer emergency service?
Yes. We offer 24/7 emergency service — call any time for urgent heating or cooling issues. If a problem feels urgent or safety-related, such as a gas odor or comfort dropping fast in harsh weather, calling is the fastest option.
Do heat pumps really work in cold Idaho and Eastern Washington winters?
Modern heat pumps are designed to perform in cold climates. At very low temperatures, the system may rely on auxiliary or backup heat to maintain comfort. During a diagnostic visit, we check both heating and cooling modes so the system is ready for the conditions it will actually face.
Can a thermostat problem look like an equipment failure?
Yes. Heating and cooling systems depend on a correct control signal. If the thermostat setup or wiring is wrong, the system can behave like the equipment is failing even when the root problem starts at the controls. That's why we test the full control path before recommending a larger repair.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — CDA Heating & Cooling is licensed, bonded, and insured in both Idaho and Washington, with 20+ years of HVAC experience across residential and commercial systems. Owner Eddie Proulx personally oversees diagnostic quality.

Not sure what's wrong?

That's exactly what the diagnostic is for. Call and we'll find the root cause and explain your options in plain language.
